Painted Floor Answers.

I have had a lot of emails and questions about how I done our Master Bedrooms floors. Well these photos are of our room (in it’s un-renovated glory). We have REALLY old Tasmanian Oak boards that are nailed together with hand made nails…so it was not a perfect finish. Anyway, we (Mum and I) pulled up layer and layer of Prostitute Red carpet, mopped the floor and then sealed the gaps with “Selley’s No More Gaps“. I ran an old bank card along the gaps to smooth it out…let that dry for a little while, and painted. We used Cabots “Timber Colour”, which I had tinted to Dulux Chalk USA. Then cut-in the corners and rolled two coats on the floor. Left it overnight and moved the furniture in the next day. I can honestly say, that white floors are WAY easier to keep than our gloss boards…even with 2 boys running all over them. Hope this helps you all. Ness xx

  • Hi! Do they scratch easily? Funny question, but are they taps on the walls?

  • No they don’t suprisingly. The paint is actually an outdoor paint so it is hard wearing. And yes, they are taps..good on you for noticing. Years ago the house was used as a Restaurant, and this room, which is actually the Lounge room (don’t ask) was the main Dining area…the taps were part of the bar. The house has wore many hats. Ness xx you make me laugh Katrina!!

  • I thought they looked very cute haha! Don’t worry, we once had a house where the main bedroom was swapped to almost every room in the house! I like the floors 🙂

  • Hi Ness, they look fantastic! Thanks for sharing. We’ve been through quite the wringer trying to do our floors – huge learning curve for us. This looks so much easier than the palaver we went through! Well get cracking on the kitchen floor asap!

  • Great job with the floors, Ness. I laughed when i read that you smoothed out the filler with an old bank card. I think sometimes we get so hung about about the right way to do things that we get put off even trying. As soon as we stop renting, my floors are getting your treatment!

  • Thanks Millie. About the old bank card…I have learnt alot from my Dad, who is one of those handy guys who can make ANYTHING. Dad has always said to use what you have already…that advice has saved us alot of money over the years. I am so glad you all liked my amature floor job…and it only cost $100.00!! Ness xx

  • Hi Ness,
Millie sent me over here.. am thinking about putting in wood floors in my bedroom and painting them white. You did a fab. job. I keep hearing they are hard to keep clean once they are painted white… but it sounds like it has worked out pretty good for you.
