Before and after shots of our home.

I thought I would give you some insight into what we were dealing with when we started our makeover/reno on our home via a before and after gallery.
This process has so far taken nearly 6 years and we are still not done..
we did have 2 babies in that time frame, so I guess we are doing ok.
Here we go….
BEFORE

AFTER
This is the fireplace in the Kitchen that I had mentioned in a previous post
makes great winter stew.
I took a leaf out of Tricia Foley’s book and painted the
back of the fireplace in a stone colour instead of the black that was originally there…
and got rid of those mice paintings.

BEFORE

AFTER
We took out the dodgy arch and put in French doors, and a huge over light, re plastered
as there was only 2mm thick fake wood paneling throughout, and lightened everything up.

BEFORE

AFTER
This is the fireplace in our Bedroom (which is actually the main living room..we borrowed it).
We haven’t done a lot in here yet just painted that horrid purple/red white, ripped up the prostitute red carpet and painted the floor boards white, painted the fire surround white and the bricks the same stone colour from the kitchen.

BEFORE

AFTER
One of the first things we done was got rid of that horrid carpet and polished our inch thick Tasmanian Oak boards. You can see our all white paint makeover too.
BEFORE above

AFTER
Our Kitchen lost the shelves and got lightened up a lot. We added picture rail, chair rail and deep skirting boards throughout and some deep cornices to bring back a little of the character of our home. We still have to paint the Kitchen doors
white, and the table and chairs will get a makeover too…
we will get there! I will show you some more photo’s soon.
I would love to hear what you think so far,
Ness xx

  • A beautiful transformation! You should be very proud of your hard work – and proud of your vision to see the beauty lying underneath that ‘prostitute red’ carpet and other things – I love it!
And it is amazing what some clever painting can achieve isn’t it?
Thanks for emailing me about your wrapping – another example of your vision to see the potential in the everyday and ordinary.
Oh and by the way I don’t think its weird to rub your feet on the sheets – because I do the same thing too! It feels soothing as you fall asleep…sweet dreams Ness!

I know six years feels like such a long time when you know how you want something to look…hang in there! I hope your husband is coming round to the white…it is makes a home so much more crisp and spacious!!

All the best in the coming year…

  • I have been waiting for these picture, and you didn’t disappoint! The transformation of your fireplace in your kitchen is amazing. I love the idea of paintng the inside a stone color.
Your french doors in the hallway with the large window above looks so much better than the arch. I would never have thought of that!
Love the white floors in your bedroom!
6 years flies by when you are busy having children.
    Bravo!!!

  • Hi Ness!

Great job, it looks fantastic ~ such hard work! I envy your dark wood floors ~ mine are pine, but old and beautiful too, but I’d so love dark ones! It is frustrating renovating over such a long period but so satisfying getting thru the jobs one after the other and seeing your home come up to what you hope it will. Excellent post. I enoy your blog very much.

  • great job Ness. Renovating seems to be an endless task, especially when children come along. I wish i could feel inspired to finish my upstairs bathroom. It was such a nightmare doing our downstairs one, I’m too scared to start the upstairs one now! Hayley

  • Awesome work already! I’d love to know what you’re doing with your dining table and chairs – we have nearly exactly the same setting and I was thinking slip-covers for the chairs. Hubby not keen to paint either table or chairs, so looking for something less permanent!

I’ve put your great blog on my blog-roll 🙂
