The Changes Have Begun

The changes have begun. Mic and I have decided to change the configuration of our home back to how it is supposed to be. Now this setting will look familiar to you…that’s because it used to be my……
….office!
The room we had occupied as our Master Bedroom is actually the other living room, but as we never used it we stole it as our bedroom. At the moment there is nothing in that room except for bits and pieces, but it will be the other living room shortly. We want to show the future owner the exact layout of the house. That and the fact that some people cant see past what is in a room!
As of now, all my office things are in boxes, suitcases etc for the time being but thats ok. It is a small sacrifice to make for the sale of our home.

This is the room as of about 1/2 an hour ago when I moved the bed in there. I could only show you this part of the room as I still have office stuff on the other side waiting to get packed up. I will probably change some of the pictures behind the bed as the bedhead is too tall as you can see, but for now it will do while I shift all the other stuff about – then I will get into it.

Oh! I did want to show you a house that caught my eye, in our price range…

Isn’t it beautiful. Fully renovated in keeping with the era of the house, but garage for Mic and room in the yard for the boys. Problem is, Mic hates the area it is in – argh!
Never mind there has been more I have looked at and we are not ready to buy just yet.
Doesn’t hurt to look though, hey?!
Have a great weekend.
Ness xx

  • That home looks gorgeous. I have always wanted a cream house with a grey roof. I instead am currently stuck with orange bricks (they are nice tumbled bricks though) and green colourbond!

  • Hi Ness:) Your ‘new’ bedroom looks fabulous! What a great idea to show the prospective buyers the exact layout of the house and what it is capable of:) I LOVE that picture of the house you saw…Hmmm maybe if you need a little bit of persuasive assistance with Mic you could call on us:) Hope you have a wonderful weekend. • Hi Ness,
AAAARRRGGGG if we only had to please ourselves, life would be so much easier!!! But in saying that we wouldn’t be without our husband and kids!! The last picture of the house looks like a nice one, actually I would LLOOOOVE to live in something like this but I don’t think it will happen anytime soon. Actually, after seeing some decorating shows recently I can fully understand where you are coming from by putting the rooms of the house back to how they were originally, some people find it hard to imagine how things are/should be/could be etc,. On some of these decorating shows a lot of people seem to forget that the owner selling will be taking their beautiful furniture with them (and don’t get me started, when they show some of the bedrooms and the beds are barely made, drives me insane, honestly I think I need to step in and show them properly how it should be done….but I am digressing (heaps!!). Have you got a big weekend planned in changing things around?? Anyway, hope that whatever you do it’s an enjoyable one. Oh on a side note, A-M mentioned having trouble with blogger comments being left and the one I left on Wednesday’s post took AGES to come through on your blog Ness…it did eventually, one hour later…was wondering if anyone else is having trouble??
    Be good!

  • Wow, houses with character and history… now there’s a thought!… so jealous that you have heritage around every corner. I love it! … and yes very smart, one has to show the buyer how to live in the home… as some people have no idea. I love some of these real estate shows where the potential buyer walks in and goes” oh but I hate the carpet”… der… rip it up then. Boy you move fast girl. Moving furniture already! A-M xx

  • What a nice transformation without changing the wallart! I really like the wallart and it seems to work with either the office or bedroom.
You’ll have your home staged and ready to sell and it will be a hit.

  • Ness, I often check out your blog as I am a Launceston person and love decorating and just saw that house you put up, I know where that house is, I live in the area and if you pick the correct street you will be okay. I have lived in a few character house areas of Launceston over the years, selling and buying and this area is great, close to Launceston itself. I am ready to move again but I am trying to bring my husband into the idea. Moving can be great fun if you keep positive about the idea. This area has many reasonable priced character houses. A house becomes a home because of the love you put into it and character homes have such wonderful history in them. Good luck in your move.

  • Hi Ness, yes, I agree with A-M, you are so fortunate to have (semi)affordable heritage homes close at hand! Perth is totally over the top real estate-wise. Its fun to look though and imagine all the wonderful things you can do to change! Its half the fun I think when you renovate and move home. Much love to you, Laura at my summerhouse

  • Hi Ness, nothing wrong with looking and looking I say! I love the look of the house, but don’t forget the golden rule of location, location. Especially in Launceston which I know can be a bit tricky with some dodgey areas.(as all towns have)
Love the rearrangement, can’t wait to see what you do next.

  • Hi Ness, I learnt the hard lesson many times over, not to look before your ready, although it is the cart before the horse syndrome. I found the “Perfect” house for us, and we still hadn’t sold our house and we went through months of anguish, hoping the house would hold out for us until we sold!!!Don’t do it to yourself!!

  • Thanks everyone for your comments about this journey of ours. I have some answers to your questions…
    1. NO, that house isnt the one we are buying. We are not ready just yet. We are looking to see what is about in our price range.
    2. About the location. The house is in a nice spot, but someone has been in Mics ear saying that is not the area to buy…and it has stuck unfortunately.
    3. Yes, changing the rooms back is really the only way to go. We done this in our last house it it only took two days to sell as people can imagine living that way. You are trying to sell this life to them in the end. Even if it makes your day to day life a little difficult, it is a small thing to do to sell your house I think.
4.Please dont worry about me being sad about loosing a house I am a great believer in ‘everything happens for a reason’. I have about 12 houses I would to buy right now, so I know there are plenty out there for when the time comes- and we have only been looking for a week!

Oh, not sure what is happenening with the comment thing. I get it all the time through other blogs. I think it is just blogger!!

I think thats it. I will answer some through email also. Thanks guys you are helping me through this process a lot! =0)

  • Hi Ness Shame about ‘ right house wrong location’ but as you say you’re not ready yet and when you are you’ll find the righgt one.
have fun ‘playing house’ and moving stuff around. Funny how some prospective buyers can’t see the big picture and what other ways you can use rooms rather than the way they are first presented.
    Have a fun weekend

  • A new house? That is a big change. I can completely relate. As much as I love our home, I dream of selling it and building something that reflects our current design style. For now I will have to live vicariously through you! I think the big challenge for you is going to be finding a home that has been renovated to suit your beautiful taste. Here in Los Angeles, all of the reno’s are atrocious! Too much granite and overly fussy tile.
Can’t wait to see your new adventure unfold.
