Farmhouse Style Kitchen Island

Remember I had hoped for a creative weekend? Well I had one and over the week I will show you what I got up to, but first I wanted to show our center island in the kitchen which my Dad fixed for me. This island did have 3 drawers in it, 2 which never worked properly and I had always wanted shelves in there instead.
So, my Dad added a shelf to the middle and I have lidded plastic storage tubs in the 2 shelves now to keep our plastic containers, tea towels etc within easy reach…but it looked untidy. So, I made a curtain from my hand dyed linen to cover it all.
A paint to finish the drawer front that remained and added my brushed nickle bin pull handles to tie in with the rest of the kitchen and voila! Finished farm house style island.
And a batch of biscuits was the reward…straight from the oven!

  • Lovely Ness, thanks for sharing your farmhouse island makeover. I really like the softness the fabric adds to the piece. The hardware is fab too.

Your biscuits look delicious, I can almost smell them from here 😉 I make my cookies in batches of
7 dozen and my boys gobble them up in no time. Have a wonderful day!

  • that was the perfect solution! I love the linen skirt and adding the new hardware keeps it modern too! We are currently in a rental so we can’t make too many changes to our little cottage kitchen but we also added the half moon hardware sprayed in oil rubbed bronze along with the old hardware and it really brought the kitchen too life!! thanks for inspiring…

  • Hi Ness,

Just a quick call in today as I am fast running out of time and REALLY shouldn’t be here. Never mind the house work will still be here I’m sure!!! You must be really pleased with your island bench, it goes so well with the rest of your kitchen and style wise with the rest of your house also!! When I seen the biscuits on the bench, my first thought was I wish I could be that tidy when I cooked. I cooked a cake this morning and you should have seen the mess. It would rival any pre-kinder finger painting mess I’m sure (haha) Actually, I’d better go and clean up, I think the kitchen needs some tender loving’ care!! Hope you’re having a great day.
    Take care
