As promised, after showing a photo of this on the Marley & Lockyer Facebook and Instagram pages, here’s the recipe for

FRENCH CHOCOLATE SOURDOUGH BREAD

Now, this is the easy version, my style. Let me let you in on it….. I use the Barossa Sourdough Rye bread kit from Laucke I use a lot of their products and have yet to find one as good. So, all you need do is follow the package directions…and you can use any sourdough kit, or make your own from scratch…then I add a couple of tablespoons of good quality cacao or cocoa powder (just make sure it is dark) ….

once the flour and cocoa has combined by kneading it…or the dough hook has done it’s job and you have left it to ‘proof’…add a few rows of the best quality dark chocolate you can find. I used Greens Organic 80% Dark Chocolate. Cut it into small chunks and knead it through the dough. Then break the dough into half, and twist each piece, dust with a tiny bit of caster sugar and put the two loaves into the oven for about 20-25 minutes…you will smell it

That’s it! Take it out, let it cool a little, make a coffee and cut some slices. I gave it a little dusting of icing sugar for the boys to have as a treat. It is not a sweet loaf by any means….it’s great with butter too.

It is so easy and the best part is you get a second loaf to use in lunch boxes  for the week! Really, you can use this for any type of bread mix, but I find the sourdough and the dark chocolate work well together….

have fun! Ness xx

  • It looks great Ness, I did a Sourdough course at Becasse last year and still have some of the starter but I think a kit sounds much easier. I’m going to try this but without the chocolate (we’re not big fans of chocolate’ weird I know)
    Beautiful phtoos as always.

    • oh, that sounds good. Not weird at all. I am not a huge chocolate lover…more a savoury person which is why I like this one with the sourdough. You could do it as a nut and cinnamon bread too.
      Thank you 🙂

  • This looks absolutely delicious. I look forward to trying this one out. I might have to battle Hubby and the kids for slice though.
