We are planning a makeover of our living/kitchen/dining space soon and my mind has been in overdrive when I am not thinking about Marley & Lockyer on what it is that this space needs to be. One thing is certain, it still needs to be real. A space that is usable, livable, real…and beautiful. I had a rare moment the other day to sit here on the sofa and think…..
Ever since I saw this home over at Cote De Texas, I was smitten! I love, love the white beadboard walls and have long wanted to have walls like this. They lend such a warm, farmhouse feel to a kitchen. I know that it would transform our kitchen in a heartbeat. The fact that it only goes up to the picture rail has me in too. The palette in here is perfect.
Over the last few months I have been picking up vintage pieces for this makeover and adding them with my current collection to decide a palette for our space. I’m loving this one and keep coming back to it- white of course, glass, zinc and pewter, old wood, wire and grey. I want the space to have a real farmhouse feel to it, with my own twist. Not really sure on what the style is…my style.
Even though I love the farmhouse feel, I love the opulence of these old servers we have. Things like this we use everyday and I think that anything in your house should be used. We don’t save things for special occasions. I think everyday is that occasion and I wan’t that to reflect in our home.
Our kitchen already has elements of this palette about and our old hutch my Dad made are full of the everyday…mostly vintage, mixed in with new and my own handmade plates and bowls.
One thing that is on the absolute “must” list is a antique French bread board. I seen this one in Fete Press Magazine and fell in love. I have wanted one for years, and recently they seem to be popping up everywhere in home ware stores, but they are new. I am after a real one…an old one.

Another piece on my ‘must have’ list is a marmalade jar. See it here with the spoons? Yep, one of those. It has everything I love all in one little item- white stoneware, old text/advertising in grey and crazing…and it’s old.
I do love this little kitchen space I found on Pinterest (which I could not find the source for)…especially the dark pictures against the white boards.
So, the list has started for the re-do. I don’t think it will be started until after I have finished this round of markets…but I did finally get my antique French board though out of this pile- straight from France- swoon!
I really want to get it done now, but patience is a virtue…and all of that 😉

P.S- there will be a shop update tomorrow morning from 9:30am 🙂

I am with you and love the look you are going for. I don’t get the open benches with storage underneath as you sit on a stool with you feet in your dishes, like in the second photo. Rae xxx
Just after that simple, lived in- real look. I totally get the foot in the pot thing though. For me I would feel like I would always be tidying them up. N xx
So much gorgeous inspiration!! Looking forward to seeing what you come up with!! x
Thank you. Slowly collecting what I need for this. Just have to find a weekend or two we have free to get cracking.

Sounds like it will be a beautiful space. Do you mind sharing your source for the French bread board, I to have always coveted a real old one.
Thank you. The board is from Fossil Vintage. Be warned- it’s a dangerous place for your credit card!
