Winter Solstice Birthday and days by the fire…

The Southern Hemisphere is enjoying the Winter Solstice today and didn’t it put on a show this morning! We had -3C here overnight and when I was taking the boys to school this morning the frost and ice was still thick. It is so nice to walk through with your boots on, crunching along.

Even though it has been super cold in the mornings and from about 3:30pm-ish, the days have been clear, sunny and stunning. Even though I enjoy the cold, it’s nice to know that today was the longest day and it is now the downhill slide to Spring!

One thing we look for with the Solstice is our eldest boy, Declan’s Birthday which was a few days ago. I still can’t believe he is 9 now! We woke to a sea of birthday paper while he frantically unwrapped his gifts on our bed…this has become a tradition on anyone’s Birthdays.

There was two cakes as well. An amazing chocolate sponge and cream cake with chocolate covered marshmallows, that my Sister made and this Spiderman cake that was Declan’s request…I preferred my Sisters cake.

It has been sooo cold in the studio my fire is still not going in there and I have been trying to get work done in my big feather jacket, beanie and scarf! It’s not the most ideal way to work with cold ceramic let me just say…but I am getting there.

It has given me a chance to finish off my tax for the year, except for a few things, and I feel like I am finally on top of it all…and all of these orders. There is a box full on the floor too. They are all making their way out at the start of the week.

Even though it is freezing, by the fire is toasty, candles are glowing, hot soul warming food is being cooked and shared and I am even getting too that Kitchen makeover list finally…only details, but it’s a start.

I hope you enjoy the sunshine over the weekend…I have a lot planned 🙂

  • Hi Ness,

So glad to see that life is still pottering along for you.
Thought I would let you know that I have just made your ‘Lime Tart’. It is currently cooling down before I put it in the fridge. It doesn’t look anything like yours…..but then, it is only my first go ever at making my own pastry or a tart!! We are all speculating as to how it will taste……

    • That’s awesome that you have it a go. I’m sure it will be brilliant. Each time you make it, you will get better.
      Thank you

        • Sounds like you need to bake the case for a little longer. Not ‘blind baking’ it for long enough, allows the filling to seep in making it soggy…just have it in for 5-10 minutes longer after you take the rice/beads out.
I’m so glad you tried it…It is a new favourite in our home.
