The Divine Wing Platter…finally!!

I feel like I am announcing the birth of a child right now, because after a years worth of many, many broken attempts…

The Divine Wing Platter worked!!

For over a year now I have had so many attempts at this platter, having it either break before even getting to the kiln, making it out of the first firing only to crack during the glaze firing. It has been frustrating, and I did think of giving up on it, but I love it too much to let go. SO, my stubborn side kicked in and persevered and I sat one day and examined every last millimeter of the last broken one to see how I could stop it from breaking…it worked!!!

It’s the perfect finisher to the Functional Range

SO, I have added a little lip to the edge of the platter which works great if you plan on serving a chicken/roast etc on it as any gravy or juices/sauces will stay on the platter. The original design was flat, so it would run off…oh yes, it also means the platter is oven proof as with the entire range. You know I love functional beauty in the kitchen!

There is so much work in every platter…80+ individually made feathers that make up each piece! They have to be laid just right…or it will crack!

Can you tell i’m excited?! Even the second attempt came out perfect!!!

You might also notice a new design in the little bowl to the top left – more on that soon, but this is all about that platter! I am hoping to have a few listed in store soon and they are definitely coming with me to the Sydney Finders Keepers Market in December, so I hope to have a lot more made before then.

– as one customer said in an email “I think anything wing is the Marley & Lockyer Holy grail”! Love it.

What do you think?

    • Oh Fiona you have no idea of the issues I have had. I actually have a big basket full of cracked ones, so I was over the moon when they worked.
Still working out the details, but there is a shop update on Sunday…which I will be announcing on social media tomorrow.
So glad you like it too!

  • Hi Ness, they look exquisite. i won’t get my hopes up though to snaffle one up though – they go so quickly in your shop! With your process perfected, maybe they will make it into the shop a little more often in 2014? Good luck with your market adventures before Christmas too – I bet it’s all snapped up in the first two hours! Can’t wait to see if you make it to Brisbane next year – that would be wonderful! xx
