Over the last few days I finally got to sit down with some magazines…it’s a rarity these days…and one in particular that I always look forward to is Fete Press. I don’t buy many magazines now, so I have become quite choosy on which ones make it home now. Not sure if this is me not having a great deal of time, or if I am realizing I don’t need a lot of ‘stuff’ in my life…who knows.
This theme has been developing since the kidney donation, and I have been putting the plan into play through out our home. Just the other day, I cleaned out my wardrobe. Might not seem like a big deal, but I only cleaned it out after I came out of hospital! I’m one for keeping things that I have had for ages…not a hoarder…but holding onto clothes that I have worn once or never. You know, still with tags on?
So, I cleaned it out and let go of those pieces and still filled two bags for charity, one for rubbish; and for the first time in ever, had a pile of empty coat hangers….I know!
Anyway, this brings me to Fete Press. I sat for a good hours, reading every word in that magazine and found the story “Renovations With Annabell”. This story sounded just like me. have always had boards on Pinterest with my ‘dream home’ and the like, tear sheets of interiors that I wanted our home to one day look like…delusional really. When all it took was a huge life event to make me realize, I already had a great home….
We have a warm, welcoming home with heart, like Annabelle discovered with her home.
Really there are only a few things that we need to do and Mic and I are thinking about a renovation soon with this space that I am really excited about. I’m not going to say too much yet as it is early and there is a lot to plan, budget for and work out. We have seen what the space will feel like and love it. One thing is for sure – either way, it is getting painted!
We purchased this Old Lady in 2003 and she needed a lot of work…a lot. So, over the thirteen years we have been here we have plodded away doing each room as we went, among having babies and dealing with Mics kidney disease and running a business. We are pretty pleased with what we have achieved while all of that has been going on about us…but this renovation will make me a very happy chicken
Our house is large and we all have our spaces within it to create, it’s really only some cosmetic things that we need. Not the grand Pinterest board plans or the tear sheet bible I have amassed.
Even while these renovation plans get underway, I have even simplified the things I would normally go for. Basic cabinetry that we can tailor to fit our space, recycled old wood with heart and many natural textures that don’t fixate on the current trending…I’m a classic girl at heart after all.
SO, thank you Annabelle for writing this piece which I immediately related too in every way. It has made me realize that I am on the right path with this whole crazy de-cluttering thing…not just loosing my mind.
Let the planning and mood board begin! ~Ness xx
P.s – this is not a sponsored post. I just love Fete Press.
