Creating new pieces for Marley & Lockyer is always something I love doing. It keeps my creative mind constantly thinking, fresh.
These two new collections are something I’ve had in my sketch books for about 4 and a half years now, but could never find the time…until recently.
This range is called Callander. Named after a beautiful little village in Scotland that we have spent a lot of time in. There is a river that runs through it with a beautiful mountain range overlooking it, and I always remember the beautiful flowers all through the village.
The flowers are all painted on, by hand. No two are the same, as I tend to just paint as I feel. Never following patterns. Our organic milk glaze pulls away from the flowers, revealing the white stoneware underneath. This magic happens in the kiln, so I never truly know what they will look like until I open the kiln door after about 28+hours.
At the moment there are the salad/serving bowl and mugs in this pattern.
The other design I was keen to make was the Stirling Tartan collection. Named after Stirling in Scotland. Another place etched in my families hearts, blood and ancestry. I wanted to make another tartan pattern that was masculine, yet feminine. We have quite a lot of men who buy M&L as well as women, and for those who aren’t into flowers, this collection has them in mind too.
I paint every single stroke on by hand. It’s very time consuming, but I love the results so much!
One thing that has always been important to me is that each collection can sit well with the next. It means that you can truly make something unique with your sets.
Here, you can see the Stirling Tartan Dinner Plate, the Fraser Cableknit Side plate, and the Stirling Tartan Mug. Below shows The Everything Bowl, Fraser Cableknit Dinner Plate, Stirling Tartan side plate and Everything Bowl, and the Callander Mug.
I love seeing what patterned come up when we are putting orders together, and it’s nice that even if you’ve got very early Marley & Lockyer pieces, they will still work with today’s collections.
Even better that they are dishwasher, microwave and oven safe too!
