Me & country style go way back. I have long loved country style the style and Country Style the magazine, for many, many years. Actually, since I was very small. I used to draw houses that have the same facade as Our Old Lady has now. It’s always been in me and the love it grew even stronger as I grew up and moved into my own space.
The simple, un-fussed over look suited me to a T. The thought that I could put ticking and check together with linens, old stoneware alongside new ceramics was a wonderful concept in my eyes. I’ve always wanted to have a home where you can feel like you belong there, like part of our family. Country style allowed that sense of freedom.
I can’t pin point any one certain style to say “this is what I follow”. I have never been a follower and I seem to gravitate always to timeless pieces, palettes and pieces. Never following trends. I collect what I love and add it to the ongoing mix. It seems to work. Industrial, Provincial, relaxed, modern country, Hampton’s and farm house are terms that come to mind of what I love…but it’s elements from these that I take, not a whole collection…you know?
Australian Country Style helped me in the early days. Fresh out of my parent’s home, Mic and I moved into a three bedroom granny flat and it was this magazine, along with the now ceased American “Country Home”, that became my go to’s. I have every issue I bought and loved the lifestyle they both depicted within their pages. I could get lost among the stories, always wanted my own country life, adding post-it note bookmarks to the pages for reference.
So when I was first asked by Country Style to be in their magazine, I was blown away…completely! Ever since that first story in the June 2012 issue, Marley & Lockyer has popped up in various pages and editorials since then and I am humbled to have such amazing support from them.
This months issue is a stunning Christmas issue with lots of people I know and respect and admire. I was asked to make a ceramic and porcelain wreath for this issue. It’s on page 66 alongside some incredibly talented Women from various creative styles…you must check it out!
I was even more surprised when I flicked a few more pages along a found one of my French Embroidered Plates featured in a recipe…that’s it with the cake on it.
This is definitely another issue to save for sure.
I’m super proud of my ceramic and porcelain wreath – The Forever Wreath…
I had a little play about with it in our kitchen the other day, to try out this years ‘look’. I’m going for a more natural theme this year…ticking, linen and natural colours…with lot’s of white, of course.
Easy, casual, light and airy. I’m making a wreath for us to keep…which is rare that I ever get a real piece of my work, just the duds that don’t make it- ha!. I’m thinking i’m going to add sprigs of green and a big satin bow…or I might keep it simple like this one. What do you think?

My last couple of comments haven’t gone through, but I’ll try again today! 🙂 I love the wreath just the way it is! But, a little color added now and again in a sprig and bow would be just as pretty! That’s the nice thing about a piece like that, it give you choices!
Yes! Adding greenery makes it pop even more. I have used it on the table to hold candles with fresh flowers too. You can do heaps with it xx
Well done Ness, well deserved recognition!
Thanks Fiona. It’s been brilliant xx
So cool, I recognised the name of course.
I’m a huge fan of Country Style myself! I just love the wreath as well – whenever I’m reading and I see one of your pieces I say to myself “Ooh, there’s something from Marley and Lockyer!” x
Naw. You are a sweetheart, Naomi!

I like the wreath as it is, but I’d still like to see what else you can do with it!
There is lot’s more you can do. Add some real greenery to it, lights, make it a center piece for candles…..
