Flower Daft!

I have been in this full botanic craze lately. I mean, I am always botanic obsessed, but lately it has been big! I completed this new piece above recently (this phot was just before I added some more shadowing/details), and have been toying about with some wallpaper ideas, and a few other things that I will share more about soon.

I have however organised to have some fine art giclee prints made of this piece. If you are interested in going on the waitlist for a print, please get in touch with me at marleyandlockyer@gmail.com

I have been playing about with this piece lately (well not for the last few days, but you know what I mean) with some new pencils I got for my birthday – graphite pencils that are watercolour!! It is completely blowing my mind! I love them so much. The feel and familiarity of graphite, but with that beautiful water colour shading. I am using these pencils. The next one I want to work on is a piece with colour and graphite. You can get so much more depth with the two.

Botanics have been in my work from the very beginning, and lately I have been really enjoying putting more detail back into my ceramic work. I have just recently been playing with some new types of Botanics (see the photo below). The inspiration comes from, well basically, my entire life. My Mum always grew a lovely garden, and I would spend hours outside playing with flowers and leaves. She would bring flowers or foliage inside and make gorgeous arrangements. Even with faux flowers, they always looked so beautiful. SO, it is no surprise really that such a heavy influence in my work and home is floral. I do love a good branch in a vase or bucket too.

My current projects have been a mix of loose florals and more detailed botanicals. I love the freedom between each style as they both allow such freedom to create.

the possibilities with this test piece are exciting!

To celebrate flowers, and Mums, I am planning something special for my newsletter subscribers. I miss my Mum dearly, and I would like to do something to remember her by. She would have loved this artwork in the first image. I am planning on making things like this a regular with subscribers. If you’d like to sign up (you can unsubscribe at any time too), you can find the pot in form on the landing page of my website www.marleyandlockyer.com
